Autoimmune Research

Grace Egan Autoimmune Encephalopathy Research

In November 2022, Grace Egan was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis, a condition in which the body's own immune system attacks the brain. Because of our limited knowledge of the disease, it's hard to know which antibodies are causing Grace's symptoms, making it hard to treat her condition.

As part of UT Southwestern's Collaboration on Neuroimmunology: Question, Understand, Educate, Restore (CONQUER) Program, Benjamin Greenberg, M.D., and Nancy Monson, Ph.D., are working to identify antibodies that cause autoimmune encephalitis to better diagnose and treat patients like Grace.

To support this research, the Egan family has set a goal to raise one million dollars to create the Grace Fund for Autoimmune Encephalopathy. Donations will support autoimmune encephalopathy research at UT Southwestern with the hope of providing answers and more options for people with autoimmune diseases.
