Join the President's Research Council for Innovation in Action: Exploring the Latest Advances in Biomedical Engineering with Samuel Achilefu, Ph.D.

Recent advances are demonstrating how previously unimaginable ways of using science and math to solve biological and medical problems are making incredible strides. Developing artificial tissues that can replace damaged tissue, using 3D printing to create artificial organs, and developing prosthetics that can be controlled by a person’s brain are radically expanding our ideas of what is possible in the field of medicine. Dr. Achilefu will discuss the impact of biomedical engineering research that is offering new promise.

  Samuel Achilefu, Ph.D.

  Professor and Chair, Biomedical Engineering

  A scientist and medical research pioneer, Dr. Achilefu is an expert in using light-sensitive drugs to help detect, view, and treat cancer. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, he has additional appointments in the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and Radiology. He holds the Lyda Hill Distinguished University Chair in Biomedical Engineering.
