Expansion Steering Committee stalwart leaders
To support UT Southwestern’s ambitious plan, a group of passionate leaders in the community has been convened to form the Fort Worth Expansion Steering Committee. Guided by personal experiences and a shared vision for accessible, state-of-the-art treatment, these volunteer leaders are committed to bringing UT Southwestern’s exceptional standards of care closer to home. Leading the charge are Steering Committee Co-Chairs Kit Moncrief and Matt Rose, whose unique journeys underscore their dedication to ensuring Fort Worth becomes a beacon of hope for cancer patients across North Texas and beyond.
Kit Moncrief
Born and raised in Fort Worth, Kit Moncrief has deep roots in the city she calls home. As current Chairman of the Board at TCU, Mrs. Moncrief’s dedication to advancing health care in Fort Worth is both personal and profound.
“I think much of my current interest in Fort Worth’s health care possibilities started first with watching my mother lose her life and dignity to lung cancer,” Mrs. Moncrief said. “And then, my husband got very involved with the new Moncrief Cancer Institute opening and would later be treated at UT Southwestern for glioblastoma – a truly terrible cancer. My husband received most of his care in Fort Worth, but his radiation treatment was always in Dallas. So it is now especially important for Fort Worth to get its own Radiation Oncology center to be able to serve patients from Lubbock to North Texas. I want more people in Fort Worth to have the opportunity to experience how UT Southwestern goes above and beyond.”
Matt Rose
Matt Rose grew up in Salina, Kansas, before his family settled in Kansas City, Missouri, where he pursued a degree in business and logistics at the University of Missouri at Columbia. His career brought him to Fort Worth 42 years ago, culminating in his role as CEO and Chairman of BNSF Railway Company, a position he held until his retirement five years ago.
“My interest in UT Southwestern stems from being a CEO of a company with 45,000 employees, many of whom live in Tarrant and Dallas counties,” Mr. Rose said. “I’ve always paid attention to the quality of health care systems in our community – and UT Southwestern has always had that quality. What UT Southwestern will do is expand on the great cancer care services they are already providing in Fort Worth and will be bringing in new technology and additional health care professionals, which will make the Fort Worth campus the place where people want to be treated.”
