Crofoot Family Creates Fund for Epilepsy Research and Treatment

Challenge finding care for their son leads to support for other families

Up until his 7th birthday, Clay Crofoot had a normal childhood. But after a doctor diagnosed him with epilepsy, his family was devastated.

Living in Lubbock, Texas, it was challenging to find treatment options. With few neurologists in the region and even fewer epilepsy specialists, the family traveled coast-to-coast seeking help.

Eventually, they found expertise at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Sasha Alick-Lindstrom, M.D., an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Radiology at the institution, took on Mr. Crofoot’s treatment.

Grateful for the care their son received at UT Southwestern, the Crofoots wanted to help other families dealing with epilepsy. They established the Crofoot Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders Endowment Fund to support epilepsy research and patient care. Southwestern Medical Foundation also provided matching funds.

"We are hopeful,” said Kelly Crofoot, Clay’s mother, “that this gift will offer clinical care for families along with research for clinicians to offer better advanced care in epilepsy.”
