Sisterhood in Action: Advancing the Cure for Breast Cancer

There’s something to be said about sisterhood, but the power of the six women behind the fundraising group B-Search can only be described as divine. Hillary Corbin, Lisa Walsh, Susan Baker, M.D., Lisa Skinner, Nina Lindia, and Laurel D’Antoni are part of this philanthropic collaborative group that independently funds groundbreaking breast cancer research. Founded in 2021, B-Search has already made a significant impact by raising nearly $1 million in just three years.

Heather McArthur, M.D., M.P.H., Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern, is the current B-Search grant recipient. Her research combines immune therapy and cryoablation, which involves freezing tumors and diseased tissue. This groundbreaking approach holds promise for effectively treating treatmentresistant types of breast cancer such as triple negative breast cancer.

With the help of B-Search, Dr. McArthur leads a phase two study of preoperative cryoablation combined with immune therapy in patients with earlystage triple negative breast cancer, and plans are in place to extend the studies to other patients in the near future. The dedicated efforts of B-Search and its donors are lighting the path to a brighter future for patients everywhere.
