At “An Evening with DocStars,” The Cary Council celebrated innovation and community support for early-stage research. Proceeds from the event fund annual research grants awarded to UT Southwestern investigators pursuing groundbreaking projects.

Congratulations to the 2024 “DocStars” – Sarah R. Lieber, M.D., M.S.C.R.; Ethan Sanford, M.D.; and Anezi Uzendu, M.D., FACC – recipients of Early-Stage Research Grants from The Cary Council. These $50,000 awards fuel transformative investigations and highlight the powerful impact of philanthropy.

Sarah R. Lieber, M.D., M.S.C.R., Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, is dedicated to improving outcomes for liver transplant recipients, ensuring they thrive after receiving “the gift of life.”

Ethan Sanford, M.D., Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Pain Management and Pediatrics, develops advanced brain health monitors to improve neurological outcomes in critically ill children.

Anezi Uzendu, M.D., FACC, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, works to revolutionize CPR education in Dallas schools, empowering students to save lives.

These researchers’ pioneering work underscores the critical need to support early-stage research. The Cary Council’s commitment provides a vital platform for exceptional physician-scientists to push boundaries and advance patient care for all. Since 2015, The Cary Council has awarded 21 grants, providing more than $21 million in additional funding for innovative research at UT Southwestern.
