Alumni & Giving
In their interactions with patients, the Therapy Dog team at Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center has witnessed the financial burden of cancer care. Sometimes, the overwhelming costs for cancer care are worsened by patients’ concern for their pets at home.
The Pet Care Assistance Fund helps patients with a range of pet-related expenses, including purchasing pet food, assisting with veterinary bills, and paying for animal boarding services for patients who travel long distances for their cancer treatments.
The goal is to alleviate the burden of pet care costs, allowing patients to focus on their own health and recovery without the additional stress of worrying about a pet’s well-being. Supporting both the patient and their animal(s) plays a vital role in ensuring the overall welfare of patients and their families during challenging times.
