An endowment fund to support the Dennis K. Stone University Lecture for Translational Science has been established at UT Southwestern in memory of the late Dr. Dennis K. Stone. This lectureship will be held annually for the research community and will commemorate Dr. Stone’s leadership in the life sciences, his commitment to the training of physician-scientists, and his vision of making UT Southwestern a hub for translational research.
Dr. Stone was an accomplished scientist who fostered biotech development at the Medical Center and throughout North Texas. During his 27 years at UT Southwestern, he cared for patients, ran the hemodialysis unit at Parkland Hospital, taught in the medical and graduate schools, and maintained a research laboratory. Dr. Stone’s experience in translational medicine led him to assume leadership of a new Office for Technology Development, where he directed licensing operations, developed biotechnology, and fostered partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
