Honoring Dr. Aslan Turer
Memorializing and Celebrating his Legacy of Leadership, Service, Family and Fun.
Aslan Turer, M.D., M.H.S., M.B.A., Professor in the Division of Cardiology UTSW; held a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of California Los Angeles and medical degree from the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Turer completed his internal medicine residency training, and cardiology fellowships at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Turer also held a Master of Health Sciences degree from Duke University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University.
Dr. Turer joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 2009. In 2011, he was selected by the cardiology fellows for the L. David Hillis Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was known regionally and nationally within the field of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and led the program at UT Southwestern to become a Center of Excellence, a distinction held by only about 40 hospitals in the U.S. In 2016, he became the Medical Director of the Clinical Heart and Vascular Center. He was also involved in major clinical trials in the field of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other heart conditions, helping to bring new care options to his patients.
Dr. Turer's work ethic was surpassed only by his dedication to his family. His wife, Christy Turer, an Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, their five children, Sebastian, Edison, Linus, Charley, and Jack, and his brother, Emre Turer, an Assistant Professor in the Center for Genetics of Host Defense, the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Department of Immunology, will miss his sense of humor, selflessness, and devotion to their family. While he exemplified a strong work ethic and a dedication to clinical work, he was able to achieve balance with his home life, being an extremely present and loving husband, father, and brother.
Dr. Turer's irreverent sense of humor, quirky style, his empathy, and ability to see the good in others left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Gifts made in honor of Dr. Turer’s legacy will be used to support lectures in his name, where we will commemorate his contributions to UTSW and celebrate his compassionate, dedicated, unique and impactful life. Please join us in honoring Dr. Turer’s legacy of dedication, leadership, service, family and fun.
